The primary theatre is a large, open plan, experimental theatre with adjustable seating and three large doors opening out into ancillary spaces off of the main structure in a 120 degree rotation. Almost the entire floor is trapped in 1200 mm (4') squares on large tube industrial aluminium scaffolding. The flexible stage and audience can potentially be arranged for a wide variety of traditional and experimental productions.
The secondary theatre ("Reeve Secondary") opens off of one side of the Primary and is a fully equipped theatre/rehearsal space with a unique shape and production possibilities. The floor is wood and fully sprung.
The F.R. Matthews Theatre is a brand new, self-contained black box theatre/lab which is adaptable for both flexible staging and various actor/audience arrangements. The theatre is equipped with a digital sound board, new ETC Element lighting board and a dedicated stock of lighting instruments and speakers. The facility also has a dressing room and green room attached to it. The dressing room is fully equipped with mirrors, appropriate stage make-up lighting and showers.
The University Theatre seats approximately 500 in a modified thrust with stadium seating. The thrust floor is fully trapped. The theatre has been used for a variety of productions ranging from plays, to musicals, opera workshops and dance. The Costume Room is in the Reeve Theatre building and is a large, well lighted, well equipped, workshop, above ground and with large windows.
The Properties/Paint shop is also in the Reeve Theatre Building and houses the activities of specialized properties construction, scene painting and welding.
The scene shop in the University Theatre houses a traditional carpenter's area adjacent to the stage. The shop is used in the construction of set elements for Drama Department shows in addition to items for other University productions.
The Department has a newly renovated design studio which is equipped for design lab and studio courses.
